Tiger Grass

Looks like bamboo but it’s actually a perennial grass. The large leaves are used to wrap food for steaming.
 
The botanical name is Thysanolaena maxima.

This Perennial grass with stout culms to 3 metres tall, with a footprint up to a metre. It has lance-shaped leaves and fine plumes of purple flowers. It forms dense clumps.
